A heart CT scan, also known as cardiac calcium scoring, is a safe, non-invasive screening (without any IVs) to determine if you have calcified, atherosclerotic plaque within your arteries. This plaque contains calcium and the imaging screen is able to detect the calcium. The screen then gives you a score of how much calcium you have. It is important to identify any plaque build up as it may block your artery and lead to a heart attack.
